The Sequence was an American female funk and hip-hop trio formed in Columbia, South Carolina. They are best known for their 1979 hit "Funk You Up," which was one of the earliest hip-hop records. Comprising Cheryl "The Pearl" Cook, Gwendolyn "Blondie" Chisolm, and Angie B. Stone, the group made significant contributions to early hip-hop and R&B music. Their innovative sound and spirited performances left a lasting impact on the development of these genres. The group disbanded in the mid-1980s.
